About Anthea
Anthea Ryan’s ceramics studio is in the heart of Hampstead Village in London. Her beautiful pottery is entirely handmade and hand decorated and every piece is unique and perfectly finished.
All pieces are food safe and made from high fired stoneware clay, making them tough and durable and entirely suitable for everyday use. They are microwave and dishwasher safe.
Anthea is a well established painter and illustrator and was inspired to start pottery after a holiday to the Greek island of Crete.
“I first fell in love with pottery over 20 years ago when I saw 3000 year old Minoan ceramics in Crete, Greece. I loved the cream coloured vases and bowls with joyful fluid patterns and animal designs and longed to recreate some of them for myself. So I went to classes and learned to throw pots on the wheel and from then on I was hooked. I recreated my own versions of a few Minoan ceramics and then gradually found my own individual style. I have a passion for pattern and decoration and I still find making pottery endlessly stimulating and exciting.”
